China A Go Go | A Bodegapop Original

Listen to "偷心的人"

Listen to "Shaking All Over"

Listen to "淚的衣裳"

Get it all here.

A selection of supremely rockin' 60s (and perhaps one or two 70s) songs from Hong Kong, Taiwan and maybe a few other places on the globe. The temptation to poach from other music blogs was great, but I instead limited myself to what I've found on CD in Manhattan and Brooklyn's Chinatowns and Flushing, Queens. (The sole exception is the Nancy Sit version of "Shaking All Over," which I couldn't find anywhere else but on a YouTube video, so I grabbed it as it's rather insanely great.)

Not enough for ya? You'll find more in this vein on No Not Nyet, here (including a version of the first song above, but ripped from fabulously warm & scratchy vinyl) and on Ghost Capital, here. (Trust me, both are well worth the time it takes to download them.)

...brilliant! this is the stuff I am looking for!!! Is so hard to get by... Youtube gives us a glimpse what is out there - but then finding it on vinyl or cd is almost impossible. So I am more than grateful for everything I can get! downloading now... knowing that it is going to be good! I am kinda working on my own compilation of 40ies to 80ies Mandarin Goldies which I am going to share on my blog some time! Meanwhile check out this other compilation of mostly Hongkong 7inch ripps: http://www.ponytone.com/2011/02/sam-hui-genius-idiot-last-message-1975.html (Some good songs in there - my favourite being: "Stella Chee - My Mother Sent Me A Guitar (1969)") - - - Another good compilation which I bought on CD like 10 years ago is "Teen Dance Music From China And Malaysia" - more on the instrumental side... but exotic, groovy, funky, at times cheesy - but good!!! Glad you all enjoyed this one. And, DubMe, thanks for the link to the Ponytone comp; I just downloaded it and it's great, that Stella Chee song in particular.

Your mixes are always solid gold. This one should be pretty awesome! I love Asian 60's pop/rock (especially Indonesia).

Thanks for all your work on this!

I don't see a track listing anywhere... Is there one? By the way if you want Nancy Sit's "Shaking All Over" on vinyl I have a spare copy of this on an original 60s EP... plus a lot of other 1965-1975 vinyl by her and other artists doing pop/beat/soul/funk/a-go-go from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia & Indonesia. Nothing from China though, as despite the title of your comp there were no a-go-go recordings made in Maoist China. If you, dubme or anyone else is interested, feel free to contact me: visviva@gmail.com
