Oum Kalthoum is widely acknowledged to have been the greatest Arabic singer of all time and one of most popular singers in the world, period.
On Wednesday, January 21, Bodega Pop Live on WFMU's Give the Drummer Radio spun three solid hours of classic and rare tracks by her precursors, direct competition, some major collaborators and of course the Voice of Egypt herself.
Oh dear lord, I can't wait to hear this.
ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting, indeed. Umm Kalthoum stays the top singer on my most-accomplished performers' list ever. For those who know her grandeur and ostentatious search for perfecting perfection itself, I'm sure this coming show will be a joy to imbue, nonpareil.
ReplyDelete"Three ... hours" - so, that means two songs or rather three?
ReplyDeleteLOL.
ReplyDeleteAs blasphemous as this sounds, przyzwoitosc, I'll be playing a few shorter early songs and then mostly excerpts from various concerts. We'll end with a full song, I think, but I'm not 100% sure which one (tho I have a good idea).
Had to catch this in the archives, but it was wonderful, Gary! Oum is such a heroic figure
